2021 Toyota RAV4 vs 2021 Honda CR-V

The Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are fierce competitors in the family-friendly SUV segment. For more information to help you decide which is the best fit for your needs, read on to find out how the 2021 models stack up against each other!

Interior Features

The Honda CR-V offers seating for up to 5 passengers, with cloth upholstery standard and an upgrade to leather available; Bluetooth is included as well. The standard four-speaker sound system accompanying a five-inch entertainment display is also upgraded on higher trims to a seven-inch display and better speakers with an HD radio.

The Toyota RAV4 is practical yet luxurious, with ambient interior lighting that creates a warm and inviting setting, all the while providing up to 69.8 cubic feet of storage for large cargo, as well as storage trays and shelves to corral your personal items. A Qi-compatible wireless charging pad and USB ports allow your passengers to keep themselves entertained during the ride!

Adults will feel more comfortable in the second row of the RAV4, thanks to the increased head and shoulder room compared to the CR-V. High-end models of the RAV4 also offer heated rear seats – an enviable feature unavailable in the CR-V. However, while the CR-V has the option to upgrade to a heated steering wheel, the RAV4 only offers one with its Weather and Moonroof Package.

Off-Road Capability

If you enjoy off-road challenges, the Toyota RAV4 may be a better choice than the Honda CR-V. The RAV4 lineup includes two off-road trims, the Adventure and the TRD Off-Road. Both trims include dynamic torque-vectoring all-wheel drive which provides unsurpassed traction and stability, no matter where you roam. In comparison, the CR-V does not have off-road-specific trims, though it does come in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The RAV4's multi-terrain select allows you to optimize wheel spin, brake pressure, and engine throttle with the turn of a dial. Terrain options include mud/sand, rock/dirt, snow, and normal. The Adventure and TRD Off-Road also include a downhill assist feature not found on the CR-V.

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 is the SUV you need if your adventures require towing a boat, small camper, or trailer. Properly equipped, the Adventure and TRD Off-Road trims have a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. The Honda CR-V offers a lower towing capacity of 1,500 pounds – which is still more than sufficient to pull a small boat or camper.

Safety Features

One of the most important factors is safety, and these two SUVs do not take that duty lightly.

The 2021 CR-V received a five-star crash-test rating from NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and was a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). The CR-V comes standard with technologies that assist while driving, helping to prevent collisions. Some of these driver-assisted features include standard forward-collision warning and lane-keeping assistance, automated braking, a lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

The 2021 RAV4 has a pre-collision system that provides braking support when a potential collision with a pedestrian or vehicle is detected. Other features of this SUV include dynamic radar cruise control to adjust your cruising speed depending on surrounding traffic, a lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams that dim when oncoming traffic is detected.
